On Wednesday, August 21, Gabriel Black (Gabe) and Lucas hosted an intramurals table at Lake Land College’s Welcome Day in the Fieldhouse. Their goal was to bridge the gap between the athletics department and student life by encouraging students to come and participate in informal sports activities that focus on having fun.
Black explained that the intramurals are designed to offer students a chance to unwind and relax by engaging in sports like basketball, spike ball, etc. These activities take place on Wednesdays from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. “We want to have fun in the middle of the week,” Black said, emphasizing that it is not about intense competition but instead about giving students an enjoyable break from their studies.
At Welcome Day, the intramurals team conducted a survey where students could share what activities they would like to see during these sessions. Black explained, “We want to know what students want to play to offer the right sports. If we already have the resources, great, but if not, we will look at adding them.”
The goal of these intramurals is simple: to connect athletes and non-athletes who might have played basketball or any other sports in high school but no longer participate in organized sports. “It’s all about having fun,” Black said. He stressed that the focus is on creating a relaxed and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy themselves. For any questions or suggestions about the intramurals, Black mentioned that students can contact him at [email protected]
