The March Student Activity Board (SAB) calendar was packed with a variety of fun events Lakers enjoyed, with guest speakers, food and free gifts. Here is a brief overview of the amazing events SAB put on this past month!
For the first event, motivational speaker and leadership coach Tim Duffy went over identifying personal communication styles and how they affect leadership and teamwork. Think of these communication styles as personality types or zodiac signs, where each style feels and handles situations differently. His presentation included popular examples such as characters from “The Office” and “The Big Bang Theory.” Students also received a free portfolio to help prepare them for leadership and success, reinforcing the topics covered in the presentation.
After spring break, students returned to a presentation by published author and researcher Dr. Katheryn Edin on the reality of poverty in rural America. After the presentation, students could pick up a signed copy of her book, “$2.00 a Day,” which explores America’s poverty crisis and the research behind it. During the book signing, Subway, mini tool kits, hygiene kits and cow plushes were available to students, highlighting resources available on campus. If this presentation hit close to home, remember that Lake Land has a student wellness specialist and food pantry available at no cost, as well as other resources to help you succeed!
The last SAB event of the month combined two activities: Student Government Association (SGA) voting and student advisement. Students cast their vote for next year’s SGA council and student trustee for a free cookie. With summer and fall registration opening, the event also gave students an opportunity to plan a visit with their advisor to register for classes and pick up some free pizza.
From presentations to pizza parties, SAB put on an array of activities for Lakers to enjoy and participate in. Stay tuned for the following events as the semester wraps up!
