Looking forward to watching some Christmas movies and listening to some Christmas music this holiday season? Well, I am here to provide my top personal recommendations for some amazing Christmas movies and songs to add some fun to your holiday season.
Let us dive into my top picks for Christmas movies. I have watched countless Christmas movies throughout the years, and I think that these picks are some of the best ones. My top Christmas movies include: “A Christmas Story”, “The Polar Express”, “Home Alone”, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” and “Elf.”
“A Christmas Story” is set in the 1940’s and tells the story of Ralphie Parker and his wish to have a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Despite several adult figures in his life telling him he will “shoot his eye out,” he convinces every adult in his life that this is the perfect Christmas gift for him. This film also shows Christmas spirit, Christmas traditions and even his adventures at school.
“The Polar Express” tells the story of a young boy who starts to doubt the existence of Santa Claus. He then boards the train known as the Polar Express, heading towards the North Pole. While on this magical journey, the young boy makes new friends and learns about friendship, bravery and belief. He then rediscovers the true meaning of Christmas and revives his belief in Santa Claus.
“Home Alone” shows the story of the McCallister’s and their very large family. The McCallister’s are planning to go to Paris for the holidays… however, this trip ends up a disaster as they have left their youngest son, Kevin, behind. Kevin is then faced with two problems: his parents leaving him by himself, and the burglars Harry and Marv trying to rob his home. Kevin makes his house burglar proof by placing booby traps around his entire home. On Christmas Day, his family is reunited with Kevin.
In the quirky Christmas comedy, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” it shows the story of the Griswold family, but more importantly, Clark Griswold. This movie portrays Clark’s wish to have the perfect family Christmas, that he has dreamed of since he was a kid. Even though Clark has good intentions for his “perfect Christmas,” everything becomes a complete disaster. This movie provides plenty of humor, as well as touching moments focusing on family. It also shows you how even though the holiday season can be a little chaotic at times, your family will always make it better.
“Elf” tells the story about a human named Buddy, who was raised by elves his whole life. He then discovers that he is not an elf, and travels all the way to New York City to meet his real father. His fun Christmas spirit and childlike enthusiasm clash with the real world around him. By the end of the movie, though, he brings his whole family together, and they all rediscover the magic and happiness of Christmas.
I recommend watching these movies during the holiday season. These films are truly wonderful, and they are enjoyable for any age. Now let us get into my Christmas song recommendations:
I would also recommend an entire Christmas album. “Bing Crosby’s Merry Christmas”, released in 1945. This is one of the most well-known and beloved Christmas albums of all time. This album features classics such as “White Christmas,” “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bells”. This album fills you with pure Christmas joy, and every song on this album is a masterpiece. My family and I listen to this album every year. This album can be streamed on any music streaming platform and is available on vinyl!
If you are looking for more modern Christmas songs to listen to, then I have two song recommendations. These include Mariah Carey’s, “All I Want for Christmas is You,” released on Oct. 29, 1994, and Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath the Tree,” released on Nov. 5, 2013. These songs are incredibly popular and widely known. They are catchy, upbeat and make you want to dance.
I hope all of these recommendations are useful to you and help you decide what to watch or listen to during this holiday season!
