While mindlessly scrolling through HBO Max one day looking for a new show to watch, I stumbled across “Euphoria.” I have seen a lot about this show and heard they were getting ready to release a third season, so I thought I would give it a try.
For those who may not have seen or heard about the show, it follows a 17-year-old girl named Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya. Throughout the show, you are following along with Rue and her life. She is fresh out of rehab and battling drug addiction, and she has no intention of staying clean. Rue’s drug addiction began when she was 13, while dealing with the loss of her dad.
After she gets out of rehab, she is trying to figure out where she fits in the world. While trying to accomplish this, she is figuring out her relationship with her friend, Jules Vaughn, and trying to navigate high school life.
The show itself delves into themes of addiction, recovery, mental health and identity. You see Rue struggling with drug addiction and the impact it has on her life, along with those around her. The show teaches you about the mental health struggles that teenagers deal with daily. You also get to see the characters discover their identities and what society expects of them.
You really get a deep dive into these themes with the other characters in the show, as each episode revolves around different characters. This shows us what motivates these characters and any challenges they have faced or will face.
This show is truly groundbreaking and was praised for its cinematography. It really shows the everyday lives of teenagers and what they struggle with on a daily basis. They turned these struggles into a high school drama show that many people can relate to, which is what makes this show a great watch. So, if you are looking for something new to watch that you feel you can relate to, then “Euphoria” should be on your watchlist.
