On August 23rd, the “Espresso” singer Sabrina Carpenter released her sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet.” This may shock recent fans who believed it was her debut album due to her recent boom in popularity from her songs “Feather,” “Nonsense,” “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
Before her new album was released, Carpenter announced her accompanying tour, “Short n’ Sweet Tour.” The tickets were in high demand, with many longtime fans losing out to new fans who believed she was a new artist. This left the longtime fans sad and disappointed, taking to the internet to scrutinize the new fans. One fan said, “If you think this is Sabrina’s first album, you should not get tickets.” There were also numerous TikTok’s about how if you do not know Carpenter from her Disney days, you do not deserve to see her tour. Which, in my opinion, is a little ridiculous. I am a longtime fan of Carpenter but think anyone who wants to see her should be able to go.
Her new album, which she called her “ovulation album,” opens with the song “Taste.” This song is a single on the album with a gruesome music video featuring Jenna Ortega. A few notable “ovulation” songs are “Good Graces,” “Bed Chem” and “Juno.” All of these have a predominate sexual theme, with “Juno” going as far as saying she would let the inspiration of the song get her pregnant.
The album also features some more emotional songs like “Dumb & Poetic,” “Lie to Girls” and “Sharpest Tool.” “Sharpest Tool” is about a past relationship that she believed was not casual but according to the ex was. “Lie to Girls” begs for boys to not lie as if a girl likes you “…they will lie to themselves…”
As I stated before, I am a fan of Carpenter and personally think this album has no skips. Personally, my favorite song, which is very difficult to choose, is “Good Graces.” I also really enjoy “Slim Pickins” and “Coincidence.” Overall, I think this album has a potential Grammy nomination coming and possibly a win. If you have not heard any songs by Carpenter, I think this album is a good place to start!
