On July 5, Ikemefuna Nwosu, commonly known as Ike, became Vice-President for Academic Services. He replaced the outgoing Jon Althaus, who retired on June 30.

Before taking over the Vice-President for Academic Services, Nwosu worked as the Division Chairperson of the Math & Science Department for the previous six years. Nwosu was an internal hire for the Vice-President of the Academic Services position. Nwosu earned his Master of Science in Biology from Eastern Illinois University (EIU) in December 2006.  Previously, Nwosu stated that he “received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Zambia.” Nwosu was born and raised in Zambia, a land-locked country in southern Africa.

While this position requires the candidate to earn a Master’s degree and prefers a Doctorate, Nwosu mentioned that this will be the last thing he will be doing in regards to taking courses while working. Nwosu stated that he is “currently enrolled at Ferris State University, located at Big Rapids, Michigan. I am in a module for eight weeks online, then one weekend, I will have to drive to Ferris State to meet with fellow classmates enrolled in the same cohort as well as the instructor of the course.”

Nwosu indicated that he was from Zambia, which helped him become acclimated to the United States due to attending an international school taught by American teachers from first grade through high school. The teachers there were from all over the United States. Nwosu said, “We learned from American textbooks. As a result of being exposed to American culture while attending international schools, I wanted to come to the United States. It wasn’t much of a culture shock.”

Nwosu specified that the United States has been good to him since It allowed him to grow and develop academically, intellectually and socially. “The country has blessed me, and I met my wife here.  Lake Land College is my only place of employment, and I enjoy working here. What more can I ask for?”
