Lake Land College’s (LLC) Student Government Association (SGA) spent much of February workshopping ways to enhance the student experience, including tentative ideas for better use of certain spaces in the Fitness Center, giving feedback on a full-color map of the campus and helping local high school students develop the leadership skills needed to change the Lake Land community and surrounding areas for the better.
The High School Leadership Conference was a great success. Members of the SGA ran various panels for the attending high school students, stressing the importance of leadership skills in academic and professional settings. At the end, students were able to ask questions about the college experience, which the SGA members were more than happy to answer.
The new map is still in the works. However, when asked about the improvements, Secretary Kailyn Tracy said, “I think the colored map is a nice addition and will definitely help new students!” The maps currently available on the website are black and white and lack clear labeling, which has been a stressor for freshmen unfamiliar with the campus. The first day of classes is oftentimes the most chaotic, so ironing out any wrinkles is a must.
To better know the needs of the students, the SGA has been helping to spread the Noel-Levitz survey. The survey takes about 20 minutes to thoroughly complete, and the results will be used to modify existing programs to better serve the student body. Additionally, those who take it will be entered into a raffle to win one of 50 Lake Land College “swag bags”.
As midterm approaches, remember to submit any concerns to the SGA through the Laker Hub! Best of luck on exams!
