Is there an instructor or staff member here at Lake Land (LLC) who impacted your college experience for the better? Or maybe more than one? Well, you can show your support for those who made a significant difference in your success through the “Made a Difference” form on the Laker Hub.
Lisa Shumard-Shelton, Director of Student Life, says the intended purpose of the form is to give students the opportunity to “write a short letter of appreciation” to faculty and staff who have “helped them during their time at LLC.”
The form, which has existed for years, was recently revamped to better align with similar forms on the hub, as well as clarifying certain instructions. In years past, students typically completed the form around the time of graduation, but it will now also be available year-round.
The form can be found on the Laker Hub under “Made a Difference.” As shown above, students have the ability to pick from a wide array of Lake Land employees to whom they can express their appreciation. Those who fill out the form will also be able to leave a brief message that details how this person made a difference in their lives while at college. The selected staff member will then be recognized with a certificate.
This new year-round form can be attributed to the work of the Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Trustee Jay Bliler, along with Heather Nohren, the Vice President of Student Services, who was very excited to get the updated form up and running, and Lake Land’s very own ISS staff.
Student Trustee Bliler, in response to what he thinks is the most important aspect of the form, made sure to mention the form’s ability to “share the lived experiences of the student.” He also added how “it is encouraging to hear what students appreciate most.”
As a staff member herself, Shumard-Shelton said excitedly, “As someone who has received a thank-you from a student via this process before, I can personally attest to the fulfillment and joy that comes with receiving one. Seeing students thrive and succeed at LLC and beyond is what we all strive for!”
The “Made a Difference” campaign has surely set out to accomplish great things, so make sure to get on your Laker Hub and let an instructor or staff member know just how much they have impacted your life at LLC!
