Next up on the Student Government Association’s (SGA) roster is Nathaniel Carlin, the Parliamentarian. The Parliamentarian’s job is to maintain order within the organization, advising members on the applicable code of conduct and ensuring meetings run smoothly.
Carlin cares about doing what is best for the student body. “In terms of Student Government,” he said, “it means putting students first at every step. Thinking about what the students want, not what you want. But not just it’s because it’s what they want, but also knowing that even though they want it, you must know the logistics of whether it is feasible.”
“Leadership is listening before speaking, showing up consistently, and turning concerns into actions that are feasible. It is important to be visible, accessible, and to be accountable. Leadership represents all students fairly, even those who disagree with you. It also means having the courage to ask hard questions, the humility to collaborate, and the commitment to follow through.”
The SGA is currently recruiting freshman to serve next year. Carlin assured the Navigator that the meetings are “actually more chill than what you might think when you think of the term ‘government.’” He added that the advisors are helpful and want what is best for every student.
Like many others, his advice to new students is to be involved in one of Lake Land College’s (LLC) many clubs.
Nathaniel Carlin is currently running for Student Trustee. If you feel he would be a good fit, his petition is available on the Laker Hub.
