Dave Johnson has been at Lake Land College (LLC) for 28 years. Since starting at Lake Land College, he has been a full-time tenured instructor and the head coach of the Women’s Basketball team here at Lake Land. Coach Johnson has won over 600 career games, while leading the Lady Lakers to a 2021 NJCAA Division II National Championship, and numerous other national title appearances.
Johnson teaches Physical Education classes in the Social Science & Education division at Lake Land College. Some of the classes he teaches include Theory of Motor Learning, Basic Activities, Introduction to Physical Education and more.
“Sometimes I don’t balance it very well. Sometimes it’s overwhelming. It takes time and dedication. I do most of the academic stuff at home” Coach Johnson said, when asked how he handles full-time teaching and full-time coaching.
As a coach, Johnson has averaged 21 wins a season, was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2022 and has had multiple NJCAA DII National Championship appearances. He has been named NJCAA DII Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year, CCCI Coach of the Year, IBCA and District M Coach of the Year, Region 24 Coach of the Year, and IBCA Junior College Coach of the Year, according to the Lake Land College Athletics website bio.
