With November being the second-to-last month of the first semester, the Student Government Association (SGA) of Lake Land College (LLC) had much to do, and limited time to do it. The delegates, however, were eager to get to work, and faced the challenges head on.
One of the highlights of November’s meetings was the appointment with Jean Anne Highland, the Chief of Staff at Lake Land College (LLC). During the meeting, she explained the college’s long-term plan for success and student satisfaction and asked the SGA for their opinions. Of the interaction, Kailyn Tracy, the SGA Secretary, said, “I found the meeting with Jean Anne Highland to be very insightful, and she was very open to our suggestions.”
SGA also worked on finalizing the specifics for their December Events: namely, the One Stop Community Christmas and the Toy Drive.
The One Stop Community Christmas is done in collaboration with the organization of the same name, and is scheduled at Lake Land College (LLC) on Dec. 13 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.. The event is intended to help families who otherwise would not be able to afford presents for their children. For information on how to donate or volunteer, please visit the One Stop Community Christmas website or contact the SGA.
The Toy Drive, on the other hand, is the result of the SGA’s independent efforts. The goal was to collect as many toys as possible for children in need. To account for more demographics, the SGA had a variety of preferred donations, including dolls, monster trucks and kinetic sand. Boxes were placed all across campus; and while the total number of donations has yet to be released, I can attest to seeing a slew of donations from generous students.
Even as the semester comes to a close, the SGA is hard at work making the holiday festivities run smoothly. I hope they, and everyone else, have a restful winter break.
