Lake Land College’s (LLC) resident Creative Arts Club came together on Oct. 29, 2025 at the Luther Student Center to create a Monster Mash, a fun Halloween party for anyone interested. There were many different events throughout the party, including a haunted trail. This event brought together members of the club, people within LLC and created a baseline for events to come.
When the Creative Arts Club first came together in early September, the idea of a Zombie Prom was initially brought up. From there, the event grew. The idea transformed from simply a zombie-themed dance to a Halloween party, with, of course, many more fun activities than primarily dancing. While the first few ideas mentioned included fortune-telling, apple-bobbing and karaoke, the ideas that the club ended up going with included dancing, tarot reading, photos and a haunted trail.
This was done through the club’s many sub-committees and members who dedicated their time to planning an event at such a scale. While the turnout was a smaller amount than first projected, this created a space where the people who were able to come, including club members, could get to know one another better, growing both new and old connections.
The volunteers at the event also had the chance to try out new creative aspects that they may not have considered previously. At the Monster Mash, there were people practicing their makeup skills, others with photography, some with tarot reading and others with their decoration and artistic talents.
The Creative Arts Club has said next year’s Monster Mash will likely be a general Halloween party rather than a dance. The club is also considering marketing the event more towards multi-club involvement in the future, creating a way for clubs to relax and have fun in each other’s company. They hope this to be of interest to LLC’s various other clubs, especially since the event would take place after midterms and some of the many events put on by their respective clubs throughout the first half of the fall semester.
Despite the low attendance rate, the Creative Arts Club’s Monster Mash was a success in terms of offering people a place to connect and relax after a hectic, and often busy, semester.
So, anyone just starting off at Lake Land, definitely be on the lookout for another new and improved Halloween event from the Creative Arts club next year, whether it is a Zombie Prom, a Monster Mash or a Halloween Hangout, there will never be a lack of creativity in the Halloween events going on at Lake Land!
