One of the Student Government Association’s (SGA) newest members, Aubrey Killey, hopes to use her position as Vice President to make a positive change and leave Lake Land College (LLC) better for those who will come after.
Like the President, Allison Meese, Aubrey grew up in a small town. West of Lake Land College, Burwick, IL, is a town of roughly 200 people. Living in such a small community taught her one of the most important life lessons: to always have integrity.
“Growing up there taught me the value of helping others, staying humble and putting in effort even when no one’s watching,” she said. “Those lessons have shaped how I approach school, leadership and life in general.”
Her primary motivation for joining SGA is her desire to “make a real difference for students.” She later adds that, “It’s rewarding to see ideas and projects come to life that help improve campus life. As for Lake Land College, I love how supportive and close the community is and that everyone truly wants you to succeed, from the staff to fellow students.
To new students, she suggests, “Get involved! Join clubs, go to events and don’t be afraid to meet new people. Lake Land has so many opportunities, and the more you put yourself out there, the more you’ll get out of your college experience. “
