The latest Student Government Association (SGA) meeting brought attention to several key topics affecting students, upcoming events and student engagement initiatives. With elections on the horizon and preparations underway for major campus activities, SGA continues to play a crucial role in shaping student life at Lake Land College.
SGA is actively working to enhance student engagement by launching a new E-Box on the Laker Hub, where students can submit concerns or suggestions directly. This initiative is designed to improve communication and ensure that student voices are heard.
Additionally, applications for sophomore delegate positions are now open. Students interested in joining SGA can apply through Laker Hub, with elections scheduled for March 26 and 27. To encourage participation, there are also discussions about bringing a sweet tea truck during the voting period.
The recent blood drive was a success, collecting 22 units to support local healthcare services. Students who missed the opportunity to donate will have another chance during the next drive on April 17.
Looking ahead, SGA is preparing for Advocacy Day on April 9, with plans for a trip to Springfield. This event provides students with the opportunity to engage with lawmakers and learn more about the legislative process affecting higher education.
One of the highlights of the spring semester will be the Spring Carnival, which promises a fun-filled experience for students. Plans include a dunk tank and Plinko for SGA, with discussions ongoing about which staff members will participate in the dunk tank. The event aims to bring students together in a lively and entertaining atmosphere.
Another major event was the High School Leadership Conference, which welcomed over 150 high school students eager to develop their leadership skills. Sophomore delegates hosted interactive 30-minute sessions, providing high schoolers with valuable insights on leadership, teamwork, and academic success.
A key moment of the conference was a session with Carlos Andrés Gómez, a best-selling author and strategic consultant. His talk focused on resilience, teamwork and personal growth, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
Additionally, Lisa Shumard- Shelton and Hayley Haskett, organized a tuition voucher giveaway, distributing Lake Land-themed gifts to students. Despite the rainy weather, the event was a success, offering a rewarding experience for all participants.
With a busy schedule ahead, SGA remains committed to advocating for students and organizing engaging activities that enhance campus life. From elections and advocacy efforts to fun-filled events like the Spring Carnival, there are plenty of opportunities for students to get involved. Student feedback will remain essential in shaping decisions.
