In March 2024, Dustyn Fatheree, who had previously worked as the Student Life Specialist at Lake Land College, transitioned to a new role within the institution. He accepted a position in the Adult Education department, marking the end of his tenure in the Student Life office. However, just a couple of months later, a new face stepped into the position. Tim Stolz, an adjunct communications professor and a night-time radio host, was hired as the new Student Life Specialist. This change ushered in a new chapter for the Student Life department at the college.
Tim Stolz was drawn to the position because it brought together two things he was passionate about, journalism and working with students. When asked why he applied, he explained, “I applied for the position because when I saw the announcement for it, I realized it combined two things that I was involved in and that I liked—journalism and working with students. I was already doing broadcast journalism on the radio and teaching as an adjunct professor at Lake Land, so when I saw a job that combined both, I thought it was a great opportunity to jump on.”
In addition to his other duties as Student Life Specialist, Tim also serves as the advisor to Lake Land’s student publication, The Navigator, where he works closely with students to guide them in the production of the campus newspaper.
So, what exactly does the Student Life Specialist role entail? Tim explained, “There’s a lot of different parts to the position. I’m the advisor for The Navigator and also for The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). Additionally, I’m part of the Student Life Team, helping with weekly events and activities that we organize for students. It definitely keeps me busy, which I like. It gives me a variety of ways to help students here at Lake Land.” Tim’s multifaceted role offers him the chance to make a meaningful impact on students’ campus experience, and he is excited about the opportunities it brings.
Since joining the Student Life team, Tim has really enjoyed his time in his role. His favorite things so far have been a trip to St Louis five days after he started, and the varity of different events that student life brings to Lake Land. Many students and staff have enjoyed having Tim as part of the team. “Tim Is doing a great job. He’s a seasoned instructor and it shows in how he’s able to lead The Navigator and NSLS students,” Lisa Shumard-Shelton, Director of Student Life said. Tim is really enjoying his new role
