October was a big month for the Student Government Association (SGA)! SGA attended many events such as career day, had their first meeting with President Bullock and even got a preview of a possible new resource for students, staff and faculty called: TimelyMD. SGA is also looking for one to two more sophomore delegates to join the team.

SGA administration attended Career Day at Lake Land College (LLC) and got the chance to speak to high school students from all over the area. The event was held on Oct. 4 and highlighted the significant aspects of LLC as a transfer school. The event also displayed LLC as a starting point for those wanting to get their associates degree, attend trade schools or transfer to a four-year university. SGA also talked about the clubs and student resources available here at LLC and answered questions that the students had about the many aspects of college life.

During this time, SGA was also looking for one to two more sophomore delegates. Applications went live from Oct. 19 to Oct. 28 and closed on the 28. The applications did not require 20 signatures and applicants will be interviewed by the executive board of SGA. SGA promoted these applications at the Oct. 26 Club or Treat. Congrats to those that get the positions.

On Oct. 5, SGA had the Vice President for Student Services, Valerie Lynch, as a guest speaker and Amber Niebrugge sat in. Lynch wanted to present a resource that is long from being put to use but would benefit the mental and physical health of students, staff and faculty. It would be like BetterMynds, the resource the college uses for students’ mental health, and would be used together or instead of BetterMynds. This program is called TimelyMD. This program is used by other colleges in the area and LLC is looking into using it as a physical health resource where the student, staff member or faculty member would not have to have health insurance to use it. They are also considering using it for mental health issues, as it is just like BetterMynds. This resource was presented to SGA to get their first opinions because its use and development into LLC’s systems are still very much on the drawing board and hypothetical.

SGA has been very busy and has many things coming up, like One Stop Community Christmas and the Nov. 10 blood drive. They also have their apparel coming soon, so students can spot them all over campus!
