In the past, we’ve told you our favorite Christmas movies, but this year we decided to ask you! Students named many movies that made them feel all warm and cozy during the most wonderful time of the year and why. So here is the list of movies that students suggested you grab your holiday pajamas and hot cocoa for.
First on the list is “White Christmas”, a musical film released in 1954. Lake Land College (LLC) student Talianna Rubin says, “It’s my favorite for nostalgic reasons.” She would watch it during the holiday season a lot growing up.
Next is “Polar Express”, a classic animated Christmas movie from 2004 about a young boy who is struggling to believe in Santa Claus. On Christmas Eve, a train comes out of nowhere to pick him up and take him to the North Pole to reinstate his faith in St. Nick. Not only does he come to believe in Santa once more, but he also makes friends and receives a present from Santa Claus. This movie is a must watch during the holiday season. According to another student, Emily Ennis, it is her favorite because the storyline is interesting and fun to follow and she’s also a fan of trains.
Third is possibly the most known of all Christmas movies, “Elf”. This Christmas movie follows actor Will Ferrel as “Buddy the Elf,” who is in fact a human who was raised as an elf, as he travels to New York to find his real dad. During his reunion with his dad, Santa crashes in New York and needs Buddy’s help inspiring the Christmas spirit to get his sleigh back in the air. If you have not seen this movie, it is a must see for any holiday celebration. Maci Birdsong exclaimed, “I watched it every year growing up! It is definitely my favorite holiday film.”
“Bad Santa” is the next movie that was suggested. Being rated R for mature content, this dark comedy is not necessarily the best choice for your next family Christmas party. It revolves around a pair of criminals who rob department stores dressed as Santa Claus and his elf. LLC student, Austin Sexson explained that it was his favorite due to the actors chosen and how well they represented their characters. He states, “I always laugh when I watch it.”
“Home Alone” is another Christmas movie you’re sure to have heard of and the last one on the list this year. This movie is a part of a franchise, including five other movies. All the movies are based on a child or children being left at home alone during Christmas. While the adults are away, the kids must defend their home from robbers. These movies are sure to keep you laughing. Emily Davidson, agriculture student at LLC says, “The part where he mouths, ‘You’ll shoot your eye out’ always makes me laugh.” She suggests watching them all in order, for a good laugh.
Enjoy your holiday season this year with one of the movies from this list! We’d also love to hear more movie suggestions, so email [email protected] with your favorite holiday movie choices!
