With mid-term exams and registration just around the corner, Lake Land College (LLC)’s Student Activity Board (SAB) has prepared supportive and preparational events for the month of March.

The “big” event of the month, as described by Director of Student Life Lisa Shumard-Shelton, is Eradicating Mental Health Stigma with Abraham Sculley. Sculley is a motivational speaker and the founder of “Speaks 2 Inspire.”

Along with his motivational speaking, he is also a “bestselling author, podcaster, advocate and Active Minds speaker on a mission to eradicate mental health stigma,” he states on his personal website. He possesses a degree in psychology, and is partnered with organizations like MTV, Mental Health America and BetterHelp.

On his website, Sculley describes his life story as a child of two Jamaican parents, and the stigma around mental health he experienced in his childhood. He also speaks of his struggle with school, work and emotions that he was taught to suppress. He uses this information to share the importance of mental health to other young adults.

On his website, Sculley states, “Today, I speak with audiences across the country, sharing my story so others will see there is hope, there is help, and we don’t have to suffer in silence.” He continues, explaining what draws him to the young adult audience: “My passion for mental health comes from my battle with depression during college.”

This motivational event is at 11 a.m. on March 2, located at LLC’s student theater in the Luther Student Center. If you would like to learn more about Sculley’s inspirational journey and services, visit www.abrahamsculley.com.

Later in the month, the SAB is holding the LLC advising event on March 16. It will be the same as last semester; you can go to Laker Point in the Luther Student Center and meet your advisor, as well as get information to be ready for summer and fall registration! Plus, if you go to the event, you get a free LLC tee shirt!

The following week is the opening of registration for summer and fall classes and the opening of the Student Government Association (SGA) election! Make sure to hop on line to get registered for classes, and cast your votes for future student representatives! Finally, on March 30, the event of the week is the Club Lunch. It will be located in Webb Hall in room 081.
