Douglas Wilson is currently serving as secretary of Lake Land College’s (LLC) Student Government Association (SGA). Wilson says he was inspired to join SGA and run for the office of Secretary because of the potential to make positive change.

“I liked that I could really make a big difference for the student body, rather than just joining another club,” Wilson said. He is also treasurer of the Human Services club.

Wilson graduated from Charleston High School in 2021. He is a Human and Health Services major at LLC, and plans to obtain a Bachelor’s, and possibly a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration.

Wilson said he was not involved in any extracurriculars in high school because he was working full-time. Though Wilson still works full-time as an Observation Partner at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, in his limited free time, he enjoys attending community events and taking spontaneous day trips to nearby cities.

When asked about his family, Wilson explained that he was the first in his immediate family to graduate from high school and is a first generation college student. He explained, “I have had to be really self-motivated because my family does not prioritize education.”

Looking to the future, he plans to move to a higher officer position in SGA or maintain his title of secretary.

After his time at LLC, Wilson thinks he will transfer to a nearby four-year university, possibly Eastern Illinois University (EIU). After graduating from EIU, he would like to work as an administrator of a healthcare facility.
