Halloween is a wonderful, gruesome time of year. Full of candy, ghosts, witches but most importantly scary movies. Here is a list of my favorite top five Halloween movies that you can sit and watch with your family. So grab a bucket of popcorn and let’s get into the movies!

5. Hocus Pocus

    I’m starting off the list with a few of the family-friendly Halloween movies. Directed in 1993, Hocus Pocus centers around three witches who steal the souls of children. Hocus Pocus is a part of my Halloween tradition and is a fun movie to sit and watch with the family and kids.

4. Halloween Town

    Another great movie to watch with the family, Halloween Town portrays a story of a family who are witches. The main character is Marnie and we watch her journey throughout all the movies. Yes, you heard me, Halloween Town doesn’t just stop at one movie: there are four! All of them are great to watch.

3. Silent Hill

Getting into the more scary movies, Silent Hill is based on a PlayStation video game of the same name that features the story of a girl looking for revenge and a town trapped in terror. We follow Sharon and her mom as they discover the story of protagonist Anna and the creation of Silent Hill. This movie is rated R and has some cool jumpscares so beware.

2. Nightmare on Elm Street

This movie will haunt your dreams (or at least that’s what Freddy Kruger does). Nightmare on Elm Street follows a psychopath killer named Freddy Kruger who murdered several kids with his hand glove of blades. Yet this killer’s story does not end when he is burned to death by the parents of the kids he killed; he comes back and haunts and tortures them in their dreams.

1.  Thirteen Ghosts

My all-time favorite movie is Thirteen Ghosts. I am a horror movie fanatic so not many give me nightmares or weird dreams anymore, but this one sure did! Thirteen ghosts focuses on the Black Zodiac, and if achieved, the Black Zodiac will give whoever achieved it access to the eye of Hell. While no one would ever truly want this, the movie follows the family of a guy who worked his whole life for this and got so close. However, like any family movie, his plan for evil was destroyed and everyone lives happily ever after.
