Lake Land College survival guide

LLC has a lot to offer students besides education. If you find yourself spending all your time at campus stressing out over classwork, maybe you should take a break by taking advantage of the affordable services Lake Land has to offer.

Unwind with the several affordable services at the Cosmetology/Esthetics department, located in the West Building on campus. The Esthetics department offers seven types of facials, two types of body treatments and even waxing. Their prices range from $5 to $45. These treatments are a perfect way to relax after a busy day of class without breaking your bank.

The Cosmetology department offers a broad range of services including haircuts, hair color, perms, scalp treatments, makeup application, nail services and many more. The prices for these services are ideal for students on a college budget. However, the department is open to the whole community, not only LLC students. The department receives several “regulars” who book appointments often after being highly satisfied with the services and prices. These regulars include students who stop by after classes and people from nearby communities who stop by to experience the excellent services the department has to offer.

Peggy Strange, director of the Cosmetology department, stated that their services are supervised by licensed cosmetology professionals. They offer punch cards to customers that allow you to get a free service after four or five services. Clients can also request which student they would like to perform their services. The program provides hands-on training experience to students studying in cosmetology and esthetics while also lending a helping hand to those looking for cheap, accessible, and high quality hair and beauty assistance.

Strange has worked as the director of the department for 26 years. She has personally seen the good these services have done for the community. She plans to retire in December of this year. However, she is hopeful that the department’s great services and assistance to the community will continue on.

There are usually around 25 students in each cosmetology class and 10 in each esthetics class. Each student normally takes at least one client per day. However, receptionist Jan Storm stated that since the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of clients has seemed to be fewer. The esthetics class starts in January, meaning the services through this program will not be available until January. But don’t worry, cosmetology classes start in August and January and they also offer facials. Cosmetic services are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
