Accomplished Student Trustee Lucas Duduit graduates from Lake Land

Lake Land College sophomore Lucas Duduit has been incredibly involved with campus organizations and activities. Duduit says he got his start in campus life when he became a Student Ambassador, informing prospective students of the opportunities available to them at the college through tours and college fairs and assisting several campus organizations and personnel with special school functions.

Duduit also joined the Student Government Association as a Freshman Delegate and was elected Student Trustee his sophomore year. As a mental health advocate, he worked with SGA to form a preliminary chapter of Active Minds, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising mental health awareness among college students. The organization offers online resources and peer support. Like most campus organizations, Lake Land’s Active Mind chapter was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after its conception. Duduit, however, singlehandedly worked with administration to improve the campus student ID tags to include information on ways to access the national suicide helpline, student counseling and campus police.

Understandably, there was quite a bit of confusion when the campus first closed due to the pandemic and everything switched to online. Duduit was a part of Phi Theta Kappa’s effort to mediate between students and instructors on the functionality of online programs and how that lined up with a curriculum that was not originally intended to be taught in a virtual setting.

The Engineering Sciences major will complete his associate’s degree at the close of the spring semester and go on to study Electrical Engineering at the Grainger School of Engineering at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana.
