Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter released her newest studio album, seventh in the lineup, on Aug. 29, 2025. The album, controversially titled “Man’s Best Friend,” comes just one year after her smash hit sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet”, dominated the charts last summer.
After starring on Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World” and various other shows, Sabrina Carpenter officially began her music career by signing a multi-album deal with Hollywood Records in 2014.
Carpenter’s music career truly took off in mid-2022, however, with the release of her fifth studio album, “Emails I Can’t Send.” The album contained hits such as “Nonsense” and “Feather.” The latter’s music video, which came out a year later, gained major media attention and showcased Carpenter alongside Milo Manheim and Zach Boussatta in a horror-esque setting.
Still, it was not until the release of her “Short n’ Sweet” album that Carpenter was able to cement her legacy as a global popstar, paving the way for her newest album, “Man’s Best Friend.” According to Carpenter, the album and its cover, which caused a flurry of controversy online, are about “being in on the control,” and added, “I think as a young woman, you’re just as aware of when you’re in control as when you’re not.” Carpenter also stated that the album encompassed “the humanity of allowing yourself to make those mistakes.”
“Man’s Best Friend” consists of twelve songs that, combined, cultivate an ultimate run time of nearly 40 minutes. Songs such as “Manchild,” the album’s lead single that debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and “Tears,” which has reached 38 million views on its music video in just one month, have made a major splash in the music industry. The “Tears” music video, which sees Carpenter side by side with Colman Domingo, pays homage to the cult-classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Some of the other notable songs on the album include the likes of “We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night,” “When Did You Get Hot?” and “Goodbye.” The songs, with themes ranging from relationships nearing their end to new beginnings, all the way up to final goodbyes, encompass everything Carpenter set out to accomplish. Making mistakes is messy, emotions and feelings are messy, but in the end, that is the point.
Similarly, the song “Go Go Juice,” which details drunken calls to exes, received significant attention and fan speculation due to the lyrics, “I’m just drinking to call someone. Ain’t nobody’s safe when I’m a little bit drunk. Could be John or Larry. Gosh, who’s to say? Or the one that rhymes with ‘villain,’ if I’m feeling that way.”
The song “House Tour” has gone viral on TikTok, racking up an astonishing 99,000 posts under the sound. “Nobody’s Son” has also gotten rather popular on the same social media platform due to its lyrics surrounding heartbreak and a whipping sound effect, making for an interesting experience for its listeners.
While “Man’s Best Friend” is definitely a bold departure from “Short n’ Sweet,” this album is certainly one of Carpenter’s best, despite the controversies surrounding its release. Fans of Carpenter’s music and new listeners alike can enjoy this album in its entirety on various music streaming services, such as Spotify and Apple Music. “Sayonara! Adios!”
