Yet again, we are introduced to another Jurassic Park movie, “Jurassic World Rebirth” (number six to be exact), adding further to the series that started back in 1993.
The movie starts out showing daily life – with dinosaurs. Suddenly seeing a dinosaur being hoisted up out of a river in New York is not at all alarming; just annoying to people trying to get to work. Capitalism has taken its toll on the dinosaurs as well. The people wanted new dinosaurs, cooler-looking ones to gawk at, so what happened? Scientists made new dinosaurs to bring in more money, all while dumping any they did not find appealing (or too dangerous) onto an island far away.
So, the dinosaurs are placed on the island and left alone, right? No.
We are introduced to a Big Pharma rep who wants to go and collect some DNA from the live hybrid dinosaurs. This rep, Martin, hires Zora, a seasoned mercenary, played by Scarlett Johansson, and Dr. Henry, played by Jonathan Bailey. Zora also convinces Martin to pay her friend Duncan, played by Mahershala Ali, to go with them as well.
Much of the movie is spent watching them make their way towards the island, fighting some ocean dinosaurs along the way. In the middle of their journey, we are introduced to a random family whose boat was capsized by –you guessed it- a dinosaur. In my opinion, this addition of characters seems unnecessary and adds nothing to the plot. The close-knit family might tug on some heart strings but that is about it.
In the end, they make it to the island, get the samples and leave. Of course, some of the actors are killed by the dinosaurs in gruesome ways (I mean would it really be a Jurassic Park movie without some dinosaurs snacking on a few unlucky humans?).
Throughout the movie I noticed there was beautiful scenery and some interesting dinosaurs, however, overall, the movie was not that great. Scarlett Johansson, Johnathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali were the peaks of the movie, but even great actors cannot fix a bad plot.
I found this movie predictable, repetitive and overall unnecessary. The Jurassic Park series should have ended a couple of movies ago.
