This month, the Student Government Association (SGA) focused on establishing itself through elections and the review of initial concerns.
Elections were held on September 10 and 11, 2025, to decide who would fill the open positions.
The following freshmen were elected to office as delegates: Caleb Joe Brinkley, Emma Banning, Haley Podkul, Kaylin Arlene Nolte, Madison Rae Hinds, Mara Dorjahn, Rachel Lynn Warfel and Tristeona Green.
The two sophomore delegates are Megan Elizabeth Mollet and Rylee Robb.
The central officers are as follows: Allison Meese, President; Aubry Killey, Vice President; Kailyn Tracy, Secretary; Abigail Warman, Public Information Officer; Nathaniel Carlin, Parliamentarian; Addison Urbanski, Treasurer; and Jay Bliler, Student Trustee.
During August, the SGA participated in the preparations for Welcome Day. 375 students attended the celebration at the main campus, and 120 joined the fun at the Effingham Technology Center (ETC). The Student Life Open House was similarly attended by over 100 students.
In September, the SGA oversaw the blood drive, which accumulated 25 units of donations. Additionally, they participated in the Special Olympics Family Festival (SOFF) parade, an event held since 1984, where they passed out miscellaneous goodies to the participants and cheered them on. Kailyn Tracy later said that the SGA had “so much fun” there.
The SGA also had the opportunity to speak with Ike Nwosu, Lake Land College’s Vice President of Academic Services, about their concerns regarding the process of withdrawing from a class. Discussions are expected to continue in earnest.
If you have any concerns you would like the SGA to discuss, please submit them to the Student Insight E-Box, located in the Laker Hub. Your suggestion will be accounted for within thirty days of its submission.
