Lake Land College students now have even more support on their academic journey thanks to exciting news from the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) programs.
Lake Land is celebrating five more years of funding for the traditional TRIO SSS program, which has long provided students with the tools to succeed in college. On top of that, the college has also been awarded funding to launch a new TRIO SSS STEM program designed to serve students majoring in science, technology, engineering and math. Together, these two programs will serve nearly 300 students each year, all at no cost to them, through U.S. Department of Education grants over the next five years.
So, what does that mean for students? TRIO offers one-on-one advising, tutoring, financial literacy help and college transfer planning. Students can also go on college visits, attend workshops and connect with a community of peers who are all working toward their goals.
“Before TRIO, I didn’t feel like I belonged in college,” said Maria, a second-year student. “Now I know I have people who believe in me and push me to succeed.”
James, a recent graduate, agreed. “TRIO gave me the confidence and tools to not just finish my degree, but to dream bigger about my future.”
Getting involved is simple:
- Search for the TRIO Eligibility Survey in the Hub.
- Stop by the TRIO suite in the Luther Student Center, Room 414, next to Student Life.
- Email [email protected] or call 217-234-5456.
“Every part of TRIO is designed to help students succeed,” said Lori Ohnesorge, Director of TRIO Programs. “We want students to know we believe in them, and we’re here to walk alongside them all the way to graduation and beyond.”
TRIO SSS has the mission to “Empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals through dedicated support and resources.” With renewed federal support and the addition of the STEM-focused program, TRIO is ready to continue building success stories, one student at a time.
