Lake Land College currently offers over 25 clubs and organizations. To give you a head start in choosing one, I handpicked a few that came together during the summer of 2025 to have fun and explore life beyond campus. Keep in mind that these are not the only groups that organize end-of-year trips for their members.
TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
TRIO Student Support Services at Lake Land College is dedicated to helping students overcome barriers and succeed in their academic journey. The program supports low-income students, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities by offering academic tutoring, financial literacy workshops, mentoring and career counseling. TRIO is not just about academics—it is about empowering students whose potential might otherwise be overlooked or under-resourced. TRIO took their students on a three-day trip to Nashville, Tennessee, blending college exploration with cultural experiences. Because TRIO emphasizes transfer readiness, the group toured universities like Vanderbilt University and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Outside of campus visits, students explored the city, walking Broadway, dining at Margaritaville and attending iconic shows at the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Auditorium. They also visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, making the trip both educational and fun.
PSYCHOLOGY CLUB
The Psychology Club at Lake Land College, launched in Spring 2025, is a club that invites curious minds from all majors to explore the fascinating world of psychology through hands-on experiences, research and community connection. Whether you are captivated by human behavior, considering a psychology-related career, or simply drawn to the question “why do people do what they do?”, this club offers a space to dig deeper. The club took a field trip to Ashmore Estates, a historic building in Ashmore, Illinois, once used as a poor farm and later a psychiatric facility. Known for being haunted, Ashmore Estates offered them a unique opportunity to explore parapsychology, the intersection of psychological phenomena and the paranormal. The trip also included a stop at the Airtight Bridge, a secluded and infamous site also in Ashmore, IL, tied to a decades-old unsolved murder.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CLUB
This is a club where students from all over the world, plus curious domestic/local students, come together to exchange stories, traditions and perspectives. The club took a three-day trip to Chicago. On the first day, they visited the SkyDeck at Willis Tower, the highest public observation deck in the United States, to take in the breathtaking skyline. Day two featured a classic Chicago experience: a Cubs vs. White Sox baseball game, which was the first-ever for over 80% of the group. On the final day, they explored the Field Museum, diving into natural history and cultural exhibits. After the scheduled activities on each day, students were free to roam the city and discover Chicago on their own terms.
STUDENT LIFE
Student Life at Lake Land College includes several key organizations: The Navigator News, The Student Trustee, the Student Activity Board (SAB) and the Student Government Association (SGA). For Summer 2025, all four went on a trip to St. Louis. Their itinerary included tours of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum and the Capitol Building. They also visited The Springfield Zoo and made a stop at Scheels, where they rode the Ferris wheel. The day wrapped up with a hearty meal at D’Arcy’s Pint, as because no trip is complete without comfort food and laughter.
