Psychology enthusiasts ought to get excited because a Psychology Club has finally joined the collection of student clubs on Lake Land College’s (LLC) campus! This recently approved club has been a long time coming and we are excited to see what new opportunities it brings to LLC students.
The Psychology Club is open to students of all majors and backgrounds and will explore Psychology in a fun, interactive way that goes outside traditional psychology class material. Andy Gaines, one of the Psychology instructors at LLC, has taken on the role of the Psychology Club’s advisor. He mentions that the club is hoping to elect some club officers soon so that they can be prepared to “hit the ground running” at the start of the fall semester. He also says that the club is already planning on partaking in a couple of outings, including visiting the University of Illinois as a transfer school option and Ashmore Estates, a historical landmark that has a history within the field of psychology.
Gaines includes that the club will be a mix of a variety of psychology-based activities. Some of these activites may include research projects, exploring transfer and career opportunities, guest speakers, community service projects and visiting various locations (such as museums), all of which have to do with the topic of psychology. Gaines also shares that the Psychology Club is distinctly different from LLC’s Active Minds Club, which is centered around mental health wellness and awareness. The Psychology Club is more focused on the field of psychology, both in careers and research, so if you are more interested in the mental health side of things, maybe consider joining the Active Minds Club instead; or you can be involved in both clubs!
LLC’s Psychology Club is a great club option for a variety of students, as well as a unique opportunity to learn more about the field of psychology, if that happens to be one of your interests, no matter your major. If you are interested in joining or learning even more about LLC’s Psychology Club, please contact Andy Gaines at: [email protected] or visit his office in NE 009.
Make sure to be on the lookout for the new Psychology Club, as well as more LLC Clubs to come! LLC’s Student Life office is always open to new club ideas, so if you or a friend has something in mind, we encourage you to present your proposal to the friendly team at Student Life. There are so many club possibilities and we encourage students to take the initiative, foster creativity and step into leadership, all of which can be achieved by starting and running a club.
