“Wrestlemania” is WWE’s biggest Premium Live Event (PLE) of the year. This year was the 41st anniversary of the event. This year’s event was held at Alligent Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 19-20, 2025.
Night one was held on Saturday April 19th, 2025. It opened up with “Main Event” Jey Uso vs “The Ring General” Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, with Uso defeating Gunther. The night also saw Jacob Fatu defeating La Knight to win the United States Championship, as well as The New Day defeating The War Raiders to win their 12th Tag Team Championship, their first in over three years. It saw Tiffany Stratton retain her Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair.
The main event was described on the post-show as a “five star classic” by Joe Tessitore. It was a triple threat match between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and CM Punk. Seth Rollins picked up the win after aligning with Paul Heyman, who was CM Punk’s best friend and Roman Reign’s wiseman. Heyman’s turn shocked everyone when he turned on Punk and Reigns to side with Rollins. It was a move that will be talked about for ages.
Night two was held on Sunday April 20, 2015. It opened with a triple threat match between Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley, and Iyo Sky, which saw Sky retaining her Woman’s World championship. The night also saw Logan Paul beat AJ Styles, Dominic Mystero winning the Intercontinal championship against Bron Breaker, Finn Balor and Penta. Drew Mcintyre defeated Damian Priest, after Priest was played to ring by Kerry King of the metal band Slayer. However, when the night began, there were unsolved mysteries ,like who was going to team with Lyra Valkeria to take on Liv Moragn and Requal Rodrigeuz and who was going to face Randy Orton.
The first mystery of the night was who was going to face Randy Orton. Orton’s original opponent, Kevin Owens, announced a couple weeks ago that he suffered a neck injury and could be out two-five years, meaning he would miss “Wrestlemania”. Because it would’ve Orton’s 20th ‘Mania, he decided to have an open challenge since “Smackdown” General Manager, Nick Aldis, didn’t have a backup opponent for him. TNA World champion, Joe Hendry, answered the challenge. Orton ended up winning after a short, but contested, matchup.
The last surprise of the night was who was going to team with Lyra Valkeria to take on the Women’s Tag Team champions, Liv Morgan and Requel Rodriguez. “The Man,” Becky Lynch, returned to team with Valkeria to defeat Mogan and Rodriguez to capture the Woman’s tag team championship.
The highlight of the evening was an anticipated generational showdown between John Cena and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The fans had been anticipating witnessing this showdown between the old and the new, with Cena being the embodiment of the experience and legacy of WWE and Rhodes embodying the new generation’s tenacity and vigor. The audience was electric as the two megastars went all out, engaging in a brutal and emotional fight filled with near-falls, finishers and dramatic turns. John Cena emerged victorious, claiming his record-breaking 17th world title. This historic victory not only solidified his legacy as one of the greatest of all time, but also marked a monumental moment in WWE history, surpassing the long-standing record previously held by Ric Flair.
