The Lake Land College Lady Lakers women’s basketball team finished the 2024-25 season with a 28-9 record, including a 13-3 record in the Great Rivers Athletics Conference (GRAC). They were 11-2 at home, 9-3 on the road and 8-4 in neutral site games.
The Lady Lakers won their first two games of the season and had a 5-1 record in November. They went 6-2 in December and posted an 11-3 record before New Year’s. They went 7-1 in January and posted an 18-4 record at the end of the month. In February, they had a 5-2 record and at the end of the month, posted a 23-6 record.
In March, they won the last two games of the regular season to push their record to 25-6. During the GRAC tournament, in which the top eight teams in the conference qualify for the tournament, the Lady Lakers won the first round of the tournament, overwhelming the Illinois Central College Lady Cougars, 78-59, before dropping a close game in the second round to Lincoln Land College Lady Loggers, 57-54.
Up to that point, the Lady Lakers went into the national tournament held at Joplin, MO, with a 26-7 record. They received an at-large bid and promptly defeated Mid-Michigan College Lady Lakers, 85-75.
In the second round, against Community College of Baltimore County-Essex or CCBC-Essex Lady Knights, the Lady Lakers were dominated, 99-76. The loss placed the Lady Lakers in the consolidated or loser’s bracket in the national tournament.
In the first game of the consolidated round, the Lady Lakers outlasted Mesa Community College Lady Thunderbirds, 76-72, before concluding their season with a 76-61 defeat to Lincoln Land College in the fifth place game.
The game against the Lady Thunderbirds was a rematch of an earlier season matchup at the SC4 Thumb Coast Tip-Off held in Port Huron, MI, which the Lady Lakers won on Dec. 16, 57-51.
Other notable rematches were when the Lady Lakers, in addition to losing in the second round of the national tournament to CCBC-Essex, also fell to the Lady Knights, 68-58 at the SC4 Thumb Coast Tip-Off in Port Huron, MI on Dec. 15.
All in all, the Lady Lakers finished the season with a 1-3 record against the Lincoln Land Lady Loggers. The Lady Lakers won the first match-up at home, 72-70 in overtime on Jan. 25 before dropping a 65-57 decision on Feb. 26 in addition to losing in the conference and national tournament games to Lincoln Land College.
