As spring unfolds on campus, the Student Government Association (SGA) stays active with a full calendar of events and important decisions. With elections around the corner and significant initiatives underway, April is a pivotal month for student leadership.
The SGA applications close on March 21, and students will cast their votes online on March 26 and 27. According to meeting records, all returning candidates submitted their petitions and SGA representatives explained the process of verifying signatures and making candidate information visible to students. Voting will be open online from 8:00 AM on March 26 to 4:00 PM on March 27. The board also discussed the need to appoint an election committee to support fair elections, as outlined in the SGA Constitution. At least three members were proposed to help oversee the election process and address any concerns that may arise.
Upcoming Events and Campus Engagement:
Several exciting activities are planned to keep students involved and connected throughout April and beyond:
- Club Lunch – April 2
SGA provides funding for this event, including a deep-dish cookie chart and inter-club networking opportunities.
- Advocacy Day – April 9
A key event this spring, Advocacy Day, will take a group of students to Springfield to meet with legislators. The students will discuss mental health, dual credits and other pressing student concerns, including Illinois Community College Board insights.
- Red Cross Blood Drive – April 17, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
In partnership with the Red Cross, this blood drive offers students and staff a chance to give back and support public health efforts.
- Student Recognition Banquet – April 30, 6:00 PM in the Field House
This event will honor outstanding student contributions and celebrate leadership across campus.
During March meetings, the board also discussed important topics such as tuition and fee rates for Summer 2025 through Spring 2026 and the need to replace uncomfortable chairs in the soils lab in West #124. The Vice President of Business is now addressing a concern raised through the Student Insight E-box about these chairs.
With elections, advocacy and student appreciation events underway, the SGA continues to engage students and strongly support campus life.
