Lake Land College is home to a vibrant student community, and among the students making an impact is Jay Bliler, the treasurer of the Student Government Association (SGA). With a strong background in agriculture and finance, Jay is committed to enhancing student life and fostering leadership on campus.
Jay is an Agriculture-Transfer major with a clear vision for his future—earning a degree in Agribusiness and becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He chose Lake Land College for its welcoming environment and strong academic programs, particularly those designed for transfer students.
Growing up with a farming background, Jay developed a deep passion for agriculture and community service. When he’s not busy with academics or SGA, he enjoys helping his family on their farm and staying involved with his church.
Jay’s desire to represent his fellow students and create positive change led him to join SGA. Since the start of the Spring Semester, he has served as SGA Treasurer, a role that requires financial management, budget planning and overseeing student funding requests. “I work closely with SGA members to ensure our financial standing supports student initiatives,” he explains.
One of his key initiatives involves boosting student engagement in clubs and campus activities. “Clubs provide an opportunity for students to build connections that can last a lifetime,” Jay shares. “SGA is dedicated to investing in student organizations, whether through funding or other resources.”
For Jay, the most fulfilling part of his SGA experience is seeing the results of their efforts come to life. “It’s incredibly rewarding to watch students participate in events that we help organize and support.”
While he hasn’t encountered major challenges in his role, he emphasizes the importance of clear communication and teamwork in ensuring smooth operations. “Strong leadership requires planning and working with capable team members,” he says. “It’s about being proactive and keeping things running efficiently.”
Being a part of SGA has helped Jay grow in many ways, particularly in networking and leadership skills. “SGA has introduced me to amazing leaders and given me opportunities I wouldn’t have had just by attending classes,” he says.
For students considering getting involved, his advice is simple: “Do not hesitate!” He encourages students to step up and take action. “If you want to see change, don’t sit back—be the one to make it happen. SGA is always looking for passionate students to join and contribute.”
With his dedication to finance, agriculture, and student leadership, Jay Bliler is making a lasting impact at Lakeland College—one initiative at a time.
