The recent SGA meetings focused on various student-centered initiatives and updates to improve campus life and foster community engagement. Among the critical projects discussed was the One Stop Community Christmas toy drive, which includes a generous match of up to $800 to purchase toys. Students and staff are encouraged to contribute by signing up classrooms and spreading the word about this initiative. This drive is a meaningful way to share the holiday spirit and positively impact the community.
Another initiative gaining momentum is the “Stuff the Turkey” canned food drive competition, organized by the Active Minds Club. Clubs are invited to collect canned goods, with a prize awarded to the group that gathers the most items. The SGA has played a supportive role in spreading the word about this initiative. The toy and food drives highlight the campus’s commitment to supporting those in need and fostering a culture of giving during the holiday season.
The annual Club Fair is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2025. This event will allow students to explore various organizations, participate in campus life, and connect with peers. In addition to the Club Fair, two Red Cross blood drives are planned for Jan. 18 and Feb. 17, 2025. These events allow students to make a life-saving difference by donating blood and supporting their community.
Efforts are being made to enhance the student experience by addressing concerns about coffee options in the bookstore. Plans are in place to source K-cups for coffee machines, ensuring fresh and convenient options for students. Additionally, feedback is being collected from those working at coffee stations around campus to guide improvements.
During this meeting, the SGA emphasized the importance of collaboration and responsiveness to student needs. By organizing meaningful events and addressing concerns, the group aims to create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel empowered to contribute and thrive.
