Are you interested in art or looking to expand your creative skills and knowledge? Would you like to be included in a community of fellow creative individuals? If so, Lake Land’s Art Club may be an ideal opportunity for you. Lake Land’s Art Club is designed to encourage and foster creativity geared toward the arts by providing an artistic environment where people with various interests and creative ideas can come together to socialize and collaborate.
The Art Club aims to create and maintain social connections among students while engaging with the campus and broader community through creating socialization opportunities for students interested in the arts, visits to various art-related exhibits and events, such as the Champaign’s Boneyard Art Festival and The Art Institute of Chicago, and through their annual fundraiser of designing and selling homemade cards and buttons. Ben Cohan, the Art Club’s advisor and sole, full-time art faculty member at Lake Land, notes that the club’s fundraiser has been quite a crowd-pleaser, with a portion of the proceeds going to a local charitable cause chosen by the club.
Cohan included that membership and momentum of the club have slowed down recently; a trend seen in other clubs across campus as well. Therefore, Lake Land’s Art Club, Theater Club and Swiftie Nation Club may join forces and create some sort of “Collective Arts Club” sometime in the future. “We wouldn’t want anyone thinking that the individual clubs are dissolving within the “Collective Arts Club” idea,” Cohan explains, “Those are all going to occur simultaneously, but we wanted to give this a try to provide more of a collaboration.” Be sure to be on the lookout for future information and details regarding this potential club opportunity!
Importantly, the Art Club is not exclusively for art majors either! Regardless of your academic discipline, if you have an interest or passion for art, appreciate art, or are involved with any other creative hobbies, the Art Club may still be a favorable option for you. Cohan emphasizes that clubs at Lake Land thrive and are successful when a group of students with a variety of backgrounds and majors comes together to work toward and achieve a common goal. Therefore, even if the Art Club does not seem to be what you are searching for, there are plenty of other clubs and activities to get involved in on campus.
