A very exciting night at Madison Square Garden, New York Nov. 16 as the greatest of all time in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Jon Jones took on the most accomplished heavyweight fighter Stipe Miocic in the main event of the night and Charles Oliveira took on Michael chandler as co main event of the night. The stadium was filled with different celebrities like Steve Harvey, Jelly Roll and other MMA fighters. Also in attendance was newly appointed president of the United States, Donald Trump who was seated ringside next to Elon Musk who he recently picked to lead the new Department of Government Efficacy.
Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic
MMA fans had been anxiously waiting for this night since the fight first fell through last November after Jones suffered an injury.
In this long-anticipated fight, Jones reclaimed his title after a stoppage at 4 minutes and 29 seconds of the third round when he hit Miocic with a spinning back kick to his body making him winner by technical knockout (TKO.) Miocic was dominated by Jones, his stance, technique and physique. Miocic did look good but not as good as Jones did. Jones landed elbows, tripping the challenger into take downs, having most head and body shots and most control time in both rounds 1 and 2. Miocic did land good right hands, responded and defended well. This still did not threaten Jones enough to slow him down. Going into the third round Miocic seemed more confident at the beginning. He added some pressure with good head shots to Jones that had him somewhat uncomfortable. This didn’t last long as just a few minutes into the round Jones caught Miocic by Suprise with a back kick directly to his liver, immediately dropping him to his knees. Jones then pounced on Miocic and gave him hammer fists straight to his head prompting Herb the referee to stop the fight putting Jones as undisputed heavy weight champion. Jones proceeded to imitating Trumps famous campaign dance in celebration as the president gave him a standing ovation.
In the after math, Miocic announced his retirement. “I’m done, I’m hanging them up “he said. Considering that he is now 42 years of age having lost his second fight in a row, a lot of people suspected his decision. Jones still gave him his respect and thanked him for the great fight, describing how fighting him felt ‘like fighting terminator.” When asked if he considered retiring after this title, Jones response was he has decided Not to retire just yet and give the people what they want to see. He said this regarding Dana whites promise to Tom Aspinall, British heavyweight, ‘a fight with whoever emerged as winner. “He went on to say he is not sure about who to fight next as he must discuss this with ‘Uncle Dana.’”
Charles Oliveira vs Michael Chandler
Michael Chandler lost to Charles by unanimous decision in the very exciting co-main event of the night. Charles was stripped of his title in 2022 when he missed weight and promised to reclaim his lightweight title. Also, this was a rematch to their 2021 fight. 38-year-old Chandler just stepped into the octagon in two years. This fight very deservingly won the fight of the night with very exciting performances and tactics from both fighters. Its biggest highlight was when Chandler dropped Charles twice to his back, while being in a body triangle, in the last seconds of the last round after being dominated for most of the fight! Chandler has never gone out without a good fight; he lived up to his name “iron man” and did exactly what every MMA fan expected. Charles on the other hand is a powerhouse and a force to reckon with as he is known for his strong right-handed jab that chandler ate throughout the fight. They both showed respect to each other and Madison Square thundered with a standing ovation for the two champs! Chandler felt very satisfied with his performance preceding to calling out Connor McGregor in his ring interview saying, “Come here and fight me, if you can!” This for sure would be a fight to look forward to for every MMA fan out there.
