It has come to that time of year again where people all around us are getting sniffly and coughing. The fall and winter season are the prime times for these illnesses of course, but we do not wish to be sick. The good thing is there are ways to help prevent having to stay in bed all day and instead you can thrive to be your healthiest self!
As it goes for any time of the year, you should always try to complete proper hygiene, but that is especially important in the colder seasons. Certain bacteria can live on surfaces for long periods, and they can transfer onto your skin. Make sure you are always properly washing your hands for at least 30 seconds and cleaning up after yourself. For example, if you were to go to the Luther Student Center at Lake Land College (LLC) and wanted to eat lunch, there are items available at the tables to help sanitize your surroundings. Whether it is hand sanitizer or Clorox wipes, there is always something available nearby.
Another useful tip if you find yourself at LLC is the nurses’ office. Health services at LLC are available to students free of charge, but there is also a health insurance program one can subscribe to if they wish. Certain options available to students are non-prescription medication, first aid, consultations on various issues and much more. All of this is available in the Luther Student Center in room 512.
Throughout the semester, LLC will hold vaccine clinics to help keep students up to date on their shots. The last vaccine clinic was held on October 7 and had the flu and Covid vaccine available. Students were able to get their vaccines with or without insurance. Without insurance, the flu vaccine was $50 and the COVID vaccine was $190. If you have any questions regarding the clinics, email Christina White at @[email protected].
Lastly, make sure to check in on yourself if you are not feeling the best. After all, you know your body more than anyone else. While your fatigue could just be from staying up late the night before, it could also mean illness so make sure to check in on how you are feeling from time to time.
