The popular Disney Channel series ran from 2012 to 2016. Consisting of two seasons, “Gravity Falls” surrounds the paranormal adventures of Dipper and Mabel Pines, twins who have been sent off to spend the summer with their Great Uncle, “Grunkle,” Stan. The twins soon discover that the town of Gravity Falls, Oregon is anything but ordinary. It is a hotspot for the metaphysical and a journal found by Dipper might just have the answers. Full of mysteries, supernatural encounters and the occasional time traveler, “Gravity Falls” has captivated audiences young and old.
In the years since the show first aired, “Gravity Falls” has gained a cult following among viewers. This has led to character costumes, fan stories and more. TikTok, the ever-popular social media platform has amassed over 2.2 million posts under #gravityfalls. Under this hashtag, viewers discuss everything from fan theories to favorite episodes.
“Gravity Falls” saw a major boost in popularity with the release of “The Book of Bill,” which took the internet by storm. The book follows Bill Cipher, the show’s main antagonist, as he tells a vastly different side of the story. Ironically, the story does not end there, as a website was created to accompany the “Book of Bill.” Teeming with mysteries to be uncovered, fans have been hard at work trying to make sense of them all.
Even Lake Land College students are throwing in their opinions. “I really like how the [“Book of Bill”] brought the fandom back,” commented Avery. When asked about the book’s drastic change in tone from the original show, Sarah added, “I feel like the book acknowledged the fact that everybody who watched the show as children are either older teens or adults now, so I feel it applies to a wider audience.” These Lakers enjoyed implementing “Gravity Falls” and its characters into their Halloween festivities.
All in all, “Gravity Falls” is making its well-deserved comeback to mainstream media. Even if it is not a new season as many had been hoping, viewers are still ecstatic over this new barrage of content that came along with the “Book of Bill.” Thanks to streaming and social media platforms, new fans are being made every day.
