Did you take an alternative path of education to Lake Land College? Then the Alternative Education Club is for you!
The purpose of the Alternative Education Club is to support students who did not take the traditional path to college. All students are welcome, including but not limited to: GED/HSE, homeschooled, pathways and non-traditional students. They host activities, offer support and strive to improve the lives of Lake Land’s alternative education students.
Deanna Clark, the co-creator and acting President of the Alternative Education Club, spoke of the club’s impact on her life and the lives of others. “I’ve definitely made some more friends, and I feel like I’ve helped a lot of people. Especially finding resources that would help them academically, like connecting them to the tutoring center or helping them go to counseling.” When asked why students should join, Clark commented, “The support aspect. Everybody needs a friend on campus, somebody who they could ask for help or for advice.” Meetings are currently being held on Thursdays this semester.
For the 2024/2025 academic school year, the Alternative Education Club is already making waves! They have decided to donate the remaining 144 dollars of club funds to the Lake Land College Opportunity Fund to pay for a current GED student’s first round of GED tests. This is in the hope of helping a student overcome a financial obstacle and aid them on their educational journey. Additionally, the club is planning a trip for its active members to the Aikman Wildlife Adventure in Arcola at the end of the spring semester. For those on campus last year, do not fret, for a second Pi Day fundraiser is also in the works!
