The 2024 Olympics are now at an end and gymnastic lovers around the world are at an all-time high from Simone Biles’ 3rd appearance in the Olympics. Biles, competing for the United States with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, resulted in many medals for her career.
At age 19, Biles entered the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Participating in vault, balance beam, floor exercise and team events. Shocking everyone with her skills, she managed to obtain astonishing scores which awarded her with four gold medals in the following areas, All-around (she got the highest cumulative score across all apparatuses), vault, floor exercise and team events. She also won a bronze medal in the category beam.
In the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, Biles won two more medals, a team silver medal and a bronze medal on the balance beam. Unfortunately, she had to withdraw from most events due to concerns about her mental health and her struggles with the “twisties”, classified as a disordering mental block during aerial movements or any movements made in the air. When she had to withdraw from her individual events, she also had to leave behind her team.
Entering her third year Biles finds herself in Paris, France this summer for the Olympics with three gold medals and one silver medal. Biles continued the streak of slip ups on the balance beam from the Olympians before her, because of this she lost her gold medal. Even with her slip-ups her scores resulted in a silver medal for the United States of America. Biles got her gold medals for vault, all-around and team.
After having to withdraw from most events for her mental health in the 2020 Olympic Games, Biles redeemed herself, bringing home three gold medals and one silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This brings her total Olympic medal count to eleven. Will Biles be back for the 2028 Olympics? According to NBC Olympics official website Biles states, “Never say never. The next Olympics is at home, so you just never know. But I am getting really old.”
