Have you heard? This year Katie Ledecky made history at the 2024 Olympics! As Ledecky goes through her fourth Olympic Games. Ledecky ends her 2024 Olympics year with four medals under her belt.
Ledecky got herself two gold medals, one silver and one bronze in her swimming career. For her two gold medals, she got in the Womans 1500(m) (indicating that the m stands for meters.) and 800(m) Freestyle, her silver medal came from the Womans 4×200(m) Freestyle Relay. Lastly her bronze metal came from the Womens 400(m) Freestyle, all of these falling under the Olympics swimming category.
According to the official Olympics website Ledecky, has won her fourth gold medal in a row for the women’s 800(m) freestyle swimming category. Which is exactly 12 years ago since her first 800(m) freestyle Olympic gold medal on 3 August in London 2012. Ledecky was asked what drives her after sweeping all possible awards in her sport, she states, “Self-improvement and enjoying training every day.” Adding more to her response she states, “I love going to the pool every day. I’m kind of dreading the little break that I’m going to take coming up. I know I’ll get back in the water probably pretty soon. I just love the feeling of being in the water and going to practice every day and working as hard as I can.”
With half the race already past Ledecky made history by completing the 800(m) race according to NPR’s (National Public Radio) official website 8:11.04 faster than the Australian by more than a second ahead. Here is a quote from Ariarne Titmus which was just seconds away from the gold metal “I’m happy that she was the one to beat me to keep her streak alive because that’s just remarkable,” Titmus said.
Exiting the 2024 Olympics Ledecky leaves with a gold medal, support and congratulations from Ledecky’s family, friends and Titmus. According to the official Olympics website Ledecky, hopes to hop back into the pool soon and keep up the hard work.
