Lake Land College’s very own Swiftie Nation Club is teaming up with Admissions & Records to encourage voter registration among students and staff. On Welcome Day, any student who registered through this promotion received a 2024 election bracelet.
The Swiftie Nation Club is one of the newest clubs here on campus. Created by Nate Carlin, the current President, the club is a space for Taylor Swift fans to gather and discuss anything from song lyrics to album covers. They have recently taken up the cause of voter registration. In response to why students should get involved and vote, Carlin said, “I want to get people to vote for the future that they want.”
To register, students that live within an in-district county will need one form of identification. This can be a driver’s license or state ID. Students must also be United States citizens and 18 years old by the day of the election. In addition, they will need to have been a resident of the precinct at least 30 days before Election Day.
This partnership is not just for first-time voters. Out-of-state and out-of-district students are encouraged to stop by the Admissions & Records office, located in the student center, and update their address and residency. These students need to bring a driver’s license or state ID and a piece of first-class mail with their updated address. This will allow those who do to vote while they are going to school and living here. Students will also have the ability to receive in-district tuition, which is a major incentive to update this information. Once registered, it will take around four weeks for the voter card to come in.
When asked why the Swiftie Nation Club was the chosen partner for this cause, Nicole Ethridge of Admissions and Records commented, “We thought that since Taylor Swift is a big proponent for voting that partnering with the [Swiftie Nation Club] would then help increase voter registrations.”
