On Wednesday August 21, 2024, Lake Land College hosted a Welcome Day event to welcome all students and staff back to campus. This year’s theme was “Roll out the Red Carpet” and included many activities, booths and a giant inflatable obstacle course.
Booths were run by both staff and students. Students created games to promote their clubs and gave away prizes. One student, Sydney Feldkamp, was helping run the booth for Active Minds club. Active Minds club is Lake Land’s mental health club promoting positivity and good mental health. During the interview Feldkamp said, “We have been able to give away so many prizes and tell so many people about what our club offers.” She also had the chance to walk around and speak with other groups. “I walked around, looked at different clubs, talked to people and enjoyed some really great food.” One thing Feldkamp would like new students to know is, “Enjoy your time at Lake Land College.”
President Bullock also stopped by during Welcome Day and could be seen visiting every booth. “So far, loving Welcome Day, one of my favorite days on campus, when you see all the energy, activity and students checking out what Lake Land College has to offer.” He continued speaking enthusiastically about Welcome Day and the campus. “It takes a lot of planning to get all the clubs, advisors and folks here, but there are always glitches. The staff have everything down to a science. They know exactly how to plan an event and what they need to do.”
Walking through Welcome Day and visiting all the booths is something Bullock enjoys and he encourages all students to take the time to get to know Lake Land College campus and all it has to offer. “If you have an interest in a club or an activity, do not be bashful, asking, stopping by student life, see what is available for students. Part of the college experience is not just about getting your academic education. It is about all the things that surround that for support and activities that make a well-rounded student.”
Lake Land College welcomes everyone to campus no matter your race, ethnicity, sexuality, or gender. Take the time to get involved by stopping by the Student Life office in the Luther Student Center.
