Car lovers buckled up this summer for a night of automobiles, music, and community at the Lake Land College Campus Cruise-In. During the evening of Saturday, June 22, Lake Land’s Automotive Technology Club and anyone in the area had the opportunity to come together on campus for this unique event.
Those who attended were able to check out over eighty awesome vehicles, both young and old, and enjoy food provided by the family owned Fully Loaded Food Truck. Jaclyn Atwell, former Lake Land custodian and former Treasurer of Lake Land’s Automotive Technology Club, played a significant role in helping arrange this project.
When asked what inspired her to want to help make the Cruise-In happen, Atwell revealed, “Well, I am into cars and I wanted the club to succeed in this, so I took the time out of my day to print off the papers and everything. I go to car shows a lot and I know a lot of the guys do too, so I know that them being able to have something of their very own for the first time would be nice.”
Atwell also mentions that Lake Land College hosting this event enabled both current and potential students to get a chance to be on campus, socialize and check out the Automotive Technology Club. Many locals and families were able to come to campus and be involved as well. In fact, Atwell said there was a car show in the area the day before the Cruise-In, so even some visitors from Texas could come out and enjoy the event!
“Since we saw such a turnout, it is possible that next year we could do a fundraiser type of thing,” says Atwell. This could potentially help keep Lake Land’s Automotive Technology Club and its projects up and running as Atwell also mentioned it was originally difficult to get it going at the start.
