It is the last month of the spring semester! While the students are finally starting to relax after final exams, the Student Government Association (SGA) is not relaxing anytime soon. Although Lake Land College (LLC) tends to be more relaxed in the summer, there are still many important tasks that will take place.
For upcoming events, the SGA will be busy with the spring carnival, on May 1. This carnival will last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. While the Student Activity Board (SAB) is hosting the event, SGA will be there participating and helping out. Expect to see campus staff fall in the dunk tank, and many of LLC’s clubs participating in the carnival! The Kluthe center will also host a spring carnival, on May 2. If you are taking summer classes, there will be a blood drive occurring in June. Anyone who is able to donate is greatly encouraged to do so, as there is a nationwide blood shortage.
The elections for the new executives for SGA have taken place. The new President is Kaylee Blackford, Vice President is Brody Will, Secretary being Addison Bartlow, Public Information Officer is Shayden Hogg, Parliamentarian is Alex Kaufmann, and Treasurer is Aubrey Hebenstreit. Welcome our new officers of SGA!
More importantly, on Apr. 17-18, the SGA went on an overnight trip to Springfield, IL to advocate for LLC. While there, SGA toured the capital. Along with visiting Springfield, SGA got the chance to speak with State Representative Chris Miller (R – District 110) and State Senator Chapin Rose (R – District 51) about issues regarding LLC. SGA was given the opportunity to advocate not just for Lake Land in general, but for the mental health funding at LLC. Unfortunately, mental health is vastly underfunded, and SGA wants to help bring that back. While on their trip at Springfield, SGA was also able to briefly meet the Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias (D).
Make sure to check your calendars if you wish to partake in the upcoming events this summer!
