Stephanie Anderson, the Internship and Employment Coordinator at Lake Land College, is much more than a mere staff member – she is a source of motivation and encouragement for students embarking on their professional paths.
Anderson’s journey at Lake Land College began as a student at Lake Land College, graduating in 2015. However, her road to graduation was not a smooth one. Uncertain of her future and lacking confidence in her abilities, Stephanie found guidance in her advisor, Helen Hendren. Hendren, a former employee in Anderson’s current role, became her mentor, instilling confidence and belief in her capabilities.
Anderson transferred to Eastern University to pursue a major in Human Services. While studying, she got an internship that later turned into a full-time job for several years. She shared that she didn’t actively seek out Career Services during her time as a student. Instead, Career Services found her. This chance encounter led to her current role. She now pays it forward by supporting and guiding others, just as Hendren did for her.
Anderson has a clear mission – to help students showcase their skills and find meaningful job opportunities. She understands that job search can be daunting and even scary, especially for students who may not fully realize their potential.
One of Anderson’s main responsibilities is to organize job fairs that are customized for different industries. These fairs cover a wide range of career fields such as agriculture, technology, nursing, auto, welding and business, providing students with targeted opportunities to explore potential career paths. The Business Fair on Apr. 17 was one such event that helped students find valuable career options.
In addition to job fairs, Anderson manages the Handshake app—a valuable resource for students to search for jobs, internships, and research potential employers. She also does the “Coffee and Career” sessions, held every third Thursday of the month at 2 p.m. in the Tutoring and Testing Center. Here, students can chat, explore career development resources, and enjoy a free cup of coffee in a relaxed setting.
Anderson also keeps in touch with Lake Land College alumni, providing ongoing support and career guidance. For Anderson, the most fulfilling aspect of her role is working directly with students, guiding them through their college journey, and helping them realize their full potential.
She stated, “I want students to know that they have someone to support them and know that they have a cheerleader” and “Helping students navigate this important time in their lives, and seeing them succeed, is what drives me every day.”
Through Anderson’s unwavering dedication and passion for empowering students, Lake Land College continues to be a place where futures are shaped and dreams are realized. As she continues her journey as the Internship and Employment Coordinator, Stephanie and her ‘small but mighty team’ remain a guiding light for students, helping them navigate the path to success.
