Lauryn Samuelson is the Student Government Association (SGA) secretary. She was originally the Parliamentarian, but recently was voted into the Secretary position, as the old Secretary had to step down. Samuelson is a broadcasting major and is planning on transferring to a four-year university, when her time at Lake Land College has ended.
Her journey to Lake Land College wasn’t direct. Her love of music and radio initially drew her down south to Nashville, Tennessee. Unfortunately, after finding out her dual credits from high school wouldn’t follow her to a new state, Samuelson decided to stay home and pursue her passion. Her love of music and teaching others has led Samuelson to learn seven instruments, with the piano being her favorite. She teaches piano and vocal lessons and loves to learn how to help people understand the fastest.
Samuelson also enjoys going outside and hiking with family, friends, and her dogs. Not only is music a passion for Samuelson, but art is another passion of hers. She enjoys going to art shows and creating her own. Her secret talent is being able to say the alphabet backward very quickly.
The SGA caught Samuelson’s attention when she started her college journey, but thought she could not due to being a Student Ambassador. After joining the SGA in the sophomore election as Parliamentarian, she quickly fell in love with helping out and being involved. Her favorite part about SGA is being engaged with the community. She “had a blast” at the High School Leadership conference and cannot wait for another event like that to pop up.
If you are considering running for the sophomore SGA election, Samuelson advises you to “Do it.” Laughing, she adds, “It is so much like a family. I look forward to knowing that I’m going to see everyone every Wednesday.” She then speaks about the friends she has made. “I’ve made so many close friends. Sophia Wagner is one of my closest friends.”
If you are considering running for the SGA sophomore election, you can learn more in your Laker Hub. The deadline to get your petition in is March 15 at 4 p.m. and voting starts on March 20, lasting until March 21.
