Taylor Swift may not have played in the Super Bowl, but millions worldwide tuned in to see her 54 seconds of screen time. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been rumored to be dating since September of 2023. Kelce is the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and Swift has been to many of his games. This has caused uproar amongst men who are fans of the sport.
When Swift went to her first football game on Sept. 24, 2023, she had approximately 25 seconds of air time. She could be seen in a private box with Kelce’s mom, whom fans lovingly call Mama Kelce. The two would cheer and support their favorite tight end during the game. People quickly took to social media to complain, some even saying she ruined football. Not every fan has a negative opinion of Swift. Some even took after Kelce, calling her a good luck charm.
The Super Bowl was Swift’s 13th football game. She flew from Tokyo to support Kelce and the Chiefs. She strutted in with her friends Blake Lively and Ice Spice, sporting an all-black outfit and a Chiefs jacket. She sat in a private box and looked to be having fun. At one point during her small air time, she chugged a drink as her friends cheered her on.
The Chiefs took on the 49ers in a tight game on Feb. 11. It was a sloppy game full of mistakes. It was a tedious back-and-forth game until overtime. This is the second time a Super Bowl has gone into overtime, but the first time since the new rules were implemented. The new rule states both teams get possession of the ball regardless if a touchdown is scored on the opening possession. In the end, wide receiver Mecole Hardman Junior scored the winning touchdown for the Chiefs.
Swift celebrated in her box and eventually joined Mama Kelce and Kelce on the field. During Swift’s 54 seconds of air time, she could be seen reacting to Kelce singing Viva Las Vegas. Fans took to social media saying she got the “ick.” Many football fans took to social media again to express their upset toward Swift being aired during the three-and-a-half-hour game broadcast.
After their victory, the Chiefs had a parade in Kansas City to celebrate. What was supposed to be a fun-filled day turned into a nightmare as shots were fired into the crowd. It was soon revealed not to be an act of terrorism, but a fight that had broken out between fans. One person died, and more than 20 were wounded. The two suspects have been arrested. The team members have been visiting hospitals and fans affected by the tragedy. Swift donated $100k to the family of the woman who was killed, even though she was not present and is currently on tour. Even though this was an act of kindness many people, primarily men, complained on the internet because it was connected to football. Proving once again, an overall distaste for Swift by some football fans.
