February may be the shortest of all months, but it has been busy for the Student Government Association (SGA) of Lake Land College. The month started strong with the High School Leadership Conference, which the SGA members had planned for months.
At the High School Leadership Conference, members of the SGA split off into pairs to facilitate groups of high school students. This month’s SGA feature, Lauryn Samuelson, did a group with the Navigator’s Editor-In-Chief, Robert Morse. The pair did a group on communication. Lauryn fondly recalled the event, “I thought it went really well, everyone seemed to be pretty engaged…” She paused and then laughed. “…after we told them there would be a prize for the winner!”
The conference was mainly held in the Field House. The guest speaker was Larry Long Jr. “He was very engaging and wasn’t boring, he didn’t make the audience fall asleep,” Lauryn said. A freshman delegate, Nate Carlin, also helped at the High School leadership conference. He was head of Team Blue, helping them find their way around the conference. “I think the conference went really well,” Nate expressed, as he began explaining how he helped the facilitators while his group was in different sessions.
After the conference, the SGA turned their focus to the upcoming Club Lunch and the Recognition Banquet, and they have begun planning their roles for the Spring Carnival. They also are starting to promote the SGA sophomore election. The deadline to get your petition in for the sophomore election is March 15 at 4 p.m., and elections will be held March 20 through March 21. Be sure to get your petitions in and go vote!
