The Student Government Association (SGA) has been working to prepare for the High School Leadership Conference (HSLC) this month. The conference has been in the works for many months and all the SGA members are doing their part to make this a very educational and successful day for the attendees.
President Madilyn Brummer contributed many ideas to the conference. Each high school student attending will receive a “passport,” created and designed by President Brummer. Students will then take this passport to each workshop and receive a sticker. Brummer also created a facilitation training booklet full of detailed and useful information for her fellow SGA members. It talked about using inclusive language, leading a group to the answer without giving them the answer and many more helpful tips.
Each pairing of the SGA will have a workshop at the HSLC, all of which they came up with or planned themselves. Brummer also volunteered to help the new Freshman Delegates find a curriculum before the conference, if needed.
The SGA has spent a lot of time and effort organizing this. They have done a walkthrough to ensure it will go smoothly and had separate meetings to ensure everything was perfect and well-planned.
The SGA has also been working on creating a food drive with Mercury Bowen, the coordinator of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. They will be starting the food drive on Jan. 31, 2024. There will be an opportunity to donate money instead of food, and they want to get everyone involved, including LLC clubs, teachers and staff. If you wish to contribute, look for the food drive boxes or contact Mercury Bowen at [email protected] or Webb Hall, Room 039.
Follow SGA on Facebook @Lake Land College Student Government Association or Instagram @sga_lakelandcollege to stay updated on future events or giveaways. Additionally, if you are interested in attending any public SGA meetings, they are held in the Student Life office in the Luther Student Center 405 every Wednesday at 11!
