Throughout the month of Nov., Lake Land College (LLC) Student Government Association (SGA) discussed a few upcoming topics and had a meeting with President Bullock. President Bullock attended one of the first meetings of the month and discussed new ideas and general updates about the college with the members of SGA.
SGA President Madilyn Brummer, opened the discussion with President Bullock with a proposition for implementing wellness days. She presented information from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and shared an outline SIUE had come up with regarding wellness days for college students.
“Mental health is equally as important as physical health for all of us, not just for students who are under a lot of stress because of classes and work and all the things you have going on in your life, but I think for everybody,” Bullock responded. “Actually, I think this is a wonderful concept. It’s something I can bring back to the cabinet to discuss. Conceptually, I think it makes a lot of sense to provide the flexibility for students to have, like us, to have that time where life can be overwhelming for us.”
Throughout the rest of the discussion regarding mental health days, the SGA suggested conducting a student survey. President Bullock shared that LLC had previously collected data on students’ mental health, though this was prior to COVID-19 and would need to be updated.
After discussing wellness days, President Bullock gave some general updates on the college and noted some of the most recent improvements to a few spots on campus, such as the locker rooms and the cheer room. He shared upcoming plans to renovate parking lot A located between the Northeast building and the Field House and briefly mentioned the new technology center that will be in Effingham.
SGA then discussed regular announcements and prepared for upcoming events, such as the One Stop Community Christmas that will take place on LLC’s campus on Dec. 9. In addition, they participated in various events throughout the month and had an SGA retreat where they played games to get to know one another.
